 This fine Georgian home was built by George
Mason and completed in 1758. The house has intricately
carved interiors designed by William Buckland, and
probably executed by the woodcarver William Bernard
Sears. Mason was the author of the Virginia Declaration
of Rights, and the major author of the first Constitution
of Virginia. He was responsible for the addition of the
Bill of Rights to the Constitution of the United States.
The building is owned by the Commonwealth of Virginia and
administered by the National Society of Colonial Dames of
